Season 5 OUAT Costumes

If you have ever been on my blog before then you probably realise that I love the hit fantasy drama Once Upon A Time. The long running show has been going for roughly 5 seasons and has recently just been renewed for a sixth(YESSSSS). I do have a passion for this show and feel there are real moral undertones and themes at the heart of the show which cam apply and aid everyone. 

Today I would like to reveal my opinions on the costumes of season 5a (, the first half of season 5,) I do admit that although it was great (,obviously it's OUAT) season 5a was not as good as I predicted although that said I think season 5b seems and end of 5a were AMAZING.  

BUT without further rabble the SEASON 5A (and  partly B) COSTUMES.................

Although part of season 5A might have disappointed a little bit the costumes CERTAINLY did not. 

I  mean just take a look at this group OF LITERAL SASS QUEENS (and kings), they are SQUAD GOALS to be honest. What fashionistaS, I am loving the more medieval design for camelot as the general fantasy design for the show kind of draws from renaissance design.  

My favourite is probably Regina's gorgeous royal red dress in a classic medieval design with beading that might be Swarovski??????     The matching cloak finishes the design perfectly and is almost a red or similar version of Belles green, mossy dress (,not shown here,) which I also love. 

Loving Snow's style here and her whole Camelot costumes Ark has been so unique.
     A closer look at the beautiful details Snow's robes. It fits her pure, chivalrous character.


Another LOOK AT A different Regina costume which I love, it's so unique and beautiful, the layering is AMAZING.

I thought pink was a slightly risky choice for Guinevere (especially such a vivid one) but in this case it worked. It complements the actress beautifully and the stitching and embellishments look fantastic.

  Although executed very well I feel that Merida has a lack of creativity put into her costume and design that is more like a carbon copy from the movie Brave.

 That said I think this alteration is fantastic and exactly what I wanted but I wish this was what merida always wore.


Can't even begin to explain the joy it gives me to see Henry in "fairy tale couture", he is adorable in his doublet..... bless him. It must have been fun for Jared Gilmore to get into period/fantasy get up for a change. He is nearly always wearing the EXACT SAME OUTFIT.


I wasn't sure that this costume was my favourite but it's growing on me a lot. I think it looks very dark and mysterious and which is perfect for Emma.


This fantastic large sleeved gown is PERFECT for Belle and suits her character so well. I love the beading and jewel pattern on it (, much like Regina,) it looks as if it is made for an erudite soul like Belle.


Loving Nimue's classic but elegant design. It has such a flowing and natural look to it that suits the personality of the character at this point.

Fantastic detail and design on Milah and Rumple's costumes, perfect for the sort of mission and tough place they are in at that point in their lives.

These costumes are GORGEOUS and I love them SOOOO much, especially Snow's gorgeous take on the bandit with pink layered fabrics and amazing boots.

To be honest I am extremely exited to see the further exploration with Oz, Zelena and what sort of things happened to her character. I am enjoying ouat even more at the moment although I did think the plot was rushed and also special effect time and care was in the Mid-season premiere. But as I say I am LOVING OUAT as usual but especially at the moment.  

The Costumes of Once Upon A Time

I am a huge fan of ABC's hit fantasy drama show Once Upon a Time, in fact it is probably my top rated show in all history.

One of the bonus' to o.u.a.t are the exquisite costumes meticulously designed and made by Eduardo Castro (emmy nominee) and his 'magical' team. So I decided to make this post.

I decided to put together some of my favourites including some other miscellaneous costumes.    



The Costumes of Snow White/Mary Margaret Blanchard

Eduardo said he tried to keep a romanticism to Snow White and uses bright colours for both her and the counterpart Mary Margaret to symbolize and portray the purity they have. He has successfully executed this style as we can tell from this beautiful white gown with a bird or dove like feather style on it.

This is almost definitely a fan favourite as it is 'Bandit Snow's'. It has a host of cream/beige different fabrics including fur and white sleeves again reflecting the purity. This is more flexible and not as tight and fancy so that it is perfect for 'Bandit Snow'.
       

This costume was created for Snow's council for season two. This outfit is practical yet regal and definitely has the romanticism Eduardo talks of. I especially like the white puffed sleeves and the quilted fabric that I heard has the shorofsky beading on it. (This is a personal favourite costume of mine.)       

This is the first thing that we see Mary Margaret wear but it looks really good with her blouse (and she usually wears a blouse or beret) and patterns at the top.
  I love this classy outfit as it really portrays the sweet, benign character of Mary Margaret and again she wears a blouse this time a hot pink.

      I just think this outfit is amazing and I love this baby/soft shade of blue and you can see the lovely matching hat and gloves.

  
The Costumes of Prince Charming/David Nolan 
Eduardo and his team really captured the chivalry and honor possessed by Prince Charming and this regal red doublet is certainly not an exception here. On the blood red doublet you can see the lovely swarovski beading that makes these stunning patterns.

        I adore this princely get-up which is seen only at the Prince's wedding. It has a lovely velvet like quality to it and works very well with Josh Dallas who plays Charming on o.u.a.t.

     This doublet is a common piece for Charming to wear whilst on his many old adventures and is another of these fan favourites. I love the brown and black leather and how it contrasts to the maroon cape with the lovely fur.

      Zach Van Norman from Once Upon a Fan said that he has a theory that as Charming is nearly always wearing red and David is nearly always wearing blue it symbolises how Charming is stronger and also more chivalrous as red is a much stronger colour than blue (usually is). This leather jacket looks very good and suits David's fairly 'cool' personality, the blue checkered shirt with the grey/blue t-shirt and jeans reminds me of the nineties as men use to wear lots of big loose-fitting shirts with patterns like the checkered one we see here(,this fits in the stuck in time ongoing theme that's in Storybrooke). This reminds me  of something I would wear myself, maybe not the leather jacket though.

Robin Hood and Marian Flashback Costumes 
         




















I love these two costumes and how they are wearing these gorgeous doublets with matching cloth capes(perfect for an honorable bandit).




Here is the classic red leather jacket, arguably the centerpiece costume for the show, first seen in the pilot. It is simple but works so well.
 
Less well known I still love this blue leather jacket and notice Emma wears darker royal costumes than her parents.



This is another of my favourite costumes and blue is my favourite colour. I love how it sort of takes after her father as far as it being an aged, awesome doublet and the amazing gloves but has a sweet pure touch to it as we can see from the sleeves like her mother Snow. This shows us that we are dealing with a strong, independent young woman but she's still sweet and friendly and on the kind of good spectrum. Notice this looks similar to Marian's costume I showed you just earlier. (scroll up to see.)





     I love this regal look that Rumple shows of here. This gold piece is one I wish we got to see more of.

I love this outfit and I do notice Regina/The Evil Queen (or ex evil queen) has some amazing costumes the're just not always my favourites but I do love them especially this one. If I did not put at least one Regina costume on this blog post I think you might just all want to kill me. This beautiful riding outfit is extremely regal and very elegant (not to mention deliciously evil), the blood/royal red is very good and striking to you and the curved huge hat with the feather just makes this get-up amazing and finishes it off to perfection.

Last but not least is Regina's young outfit which has this sea foam or baby blue which is so lovely and suits the innocence of young regina played by the fantastic Lana Parrilla. It was actually said by Regina in a season four episode 21 'mother'    that baby blue is her favourite colour.




 I love this fashionable costume and Eduardo himself said that Aurora's dress was their "homage to modern couture" and it is in many, many ways but still manages to have a fairy-tale/fantasy or period look to it just not as prominently as some of the others.

I have caught sight of these rumors that there are talks of a Charmed reboot and unlike so many I am not completely against that. 

Hear me out!!!!!!!!

• This would give the show a chance to update the wider choice that t.v shows now have in special effects. 
• Let us have more character development and have more of an input on the show 
• Make it more mature but still accessible for families but maybe a usual rating of 10 plus
• Maybe even some new songs and soundtracks which may be mixed with the old one.
• This could give Charmed so many opportunities and stand against these other highly competitive shows that are very modern.     

        

Ashley Benson as Phoebe 

I think that we can agree that Benson can act as p.l.l is good evidence of that. If you think about it Hanna and Phoebe are extremely similar characters and she seems very good at playing the sweet, bubbly type. She seems to have some sass which could come in handy      on a show like charmed. 

Ginnifer Goodwin as Piper        

If you have watched Once Upon a Time  then you probably know Ginnifer Goodwin and there is no debate to whether she can act and her character Snow is extremely benign and loyal like Piper and acts as a mediator in o.u.a.t but is very strong and ready to defend her family or someone in need. 


Natalie Portman as Prue

This might surprise you but I think Natalie is a very strong woman and as we see in her role of Jane Foster in Thor that she is very good as  the determined intellectual type like Prue herself.       

(Now as for the supporting cast I have only done a few as there are many, many extra characters in this series.)

Emma Stone as Paige 

I don’t know if Paige would be in this reboot but if she would be then I think Emma would be a perfect choice. She has a huge sense of humour like Paige and is very quirky and very fun/caring like Paige.

  

Meryl Streep as Grams
I think she would be amazing playing Grams. She is a real feminist and would be awesome playing a strong matriarch like her character and can be very funny and sweet/sensitive in roles and has a wide range which is important in grams.

Ryan Reynolds as Leo Wyatt 

He is a sweet but strong young man simultaneously and could play a white lighter extremely well. He is only a year older than Ginny and would be a good age to play her love interest/husband in the series. He seems really good at playing mature or responsible/hard-working characters like in ‘the proposal’ and in Definitely Maybe.  

   Jamie Foxx as P.C Daryl

He can be amusing as a result of him being serious and stressful very similar to Daryl, making annoyed/aggravated remarks usually out of stress. Daryl is constantly covering for the girls and is much like his character in Valentine’s Day. His age should not matter too much as he is young looking and never romantically involved with the main cast especially the charmed ones.
